tangible assets

Ok, everyone (i think) will agree that an asset is something u got/own that has value and can be sold (capital gains) or gives u income. ie. the APY u can get from having HBD savings..
well, what about tangible assets? like a house to live in, or having a garden that puts food in your belly? Most people have jobs and probably some money in the bank. so they have a certain dollar amount in total that is their net worth, or u could say they are wealthy since they earn a salary or receive X dollars a month. but that money isn't worth too much when there is a big storm or something and all the banks are closed and ATM's are down.
I have this picture in my head that I would like to live so that, if there was another covid like event or like if the power grid went down, etc.. life would just be regular and normal and go on without much change. as in NO worrying about shopping or not being able to/wanting to go out.
I like to break things down and list what categories of stuff one needs (or wants)..
shelter
water
food
security
medical
sanitation
communications
entertainment
anything u would add to this list? before, my mom would just HAVE to go out every other day at minimum, or she will feel all 'couped up'. I always told her I could go months (maybe a year or more) without having to go anywhere. is that just weird?
:P
