Otro día que va: el uso de la cuadrícula en el dibujo 🤍🖼️ [ENG/ESP]

Greetings to everyone in the lifestyle community. Today I’m joining you here to share a new day in the classroom. This time, I’m sharing what our Monday was like as we focused on drawing. As I mentioned in previous posts on Hive, I’ve set aside Mondays to reinforce information on drawing techniques and Wednesdays to reinforce information on painting techniques. When we began the first lesson, the children learned about the use of the so-called "grid," a tool that helps transfer any drawing onto a sheet of paper (or any material: cardstock, canvas, panel) where they will paint or draw. Some artists believe that using a grid is a shortcut or detracts from the artist’s work, since it facilitates or results in a sort of “tracing, a copy” rather than the personal interpretation that should be present in an artistic creation. In other words, it’s not the same to draw something from scratch without any guidance (by “eye”) as it is to have the grid as a guide, which “offers shortcuts.” Fortunately, I don’t think that way, and I believe that any tool that offers a certain advantage is a great asset—and in any case, not everyone masters the grid.

Saludos a todos en la comunidad de lifestyle. El día de hoy me uno por acá para compartir con ustedes un nuevo día en el aula de clases. En esta ocasión les traigo lo que fue nuestro día lunes viendo dibujo. Como comenté en anteriores publicaciones en Hive, he tomado los días lunes para poder reforzar la información sobre las técnicas de dibujo y los días miércoles para reforzar la información sobre técnicas pictóricas. Cuando comenzamos el primer momento pedagógico los niños vieron el uso de la llamada "cuadrícula" un instrumento que ayuda a traspasar cualquier dibujo a una hoja (o cualquier material: cartulina, lienzo, canvas/panel) en donde vayan a pintar o dibujar. Algunos artistas piensan que el uso de la cuadrícula es una trampa o quita mérito al trabajo del dibujante/pintor ya que facilita o genera de cierta manera "un calco, una copia" y no la interpretación personal que debe existir en una creación artística. Es decir, no es lo mismo dibujar algo desde cero sin ningún tipo de guía (a "ojo") a tener la guía de la cuadricula que "ofrece atajos". Por suerte, yo no pienso así y creo que cualquier herramienta que ofrezca cierta ventaja es una gran ganancia y en todo caso, no cualquiera domina la cuadrícula.

It requires a certain understanding of things to be able to build, block by block, the parts of an image. That is more or less the idea behind the grid; the union of the parts creates something greater. The children initially brought an image of their own choosing. Most chose landscapes or animals. Some others sought to be more faithful to other ideas they wanted to create, so I let them do so. The grid serves to create a habit, to understand that a sheet of paper is not just a sheet of paper but a space where every square counts (even if it is empty). Anchoring and connecting lines here and there, using point A to B to form larger curved lines that gradually become a sphere and finally an apple (for example), are valuable ways to learn to draw. Plus, the grid helps us with scale, preventing proportion errors since it’s almost foolproof... And well, another part of it is the artist’s common sense in being able to connect one element to another. They included chiaroscuro in this piece, and this is how it turned out. Se requiere cierto entendimiento de las cosas para poder construir, bloque a bloque, las partes de una imagen. Ese es mas o menos la idea de la cuadrícula; la unión de las partes crea algo mayor. Los niños trajeron inicialmente una imagen de su propio gusto. La mayoría escogieron paisajes o animales. Algunos otros buscaron ser más fieles a otras ideas que querian hacer así que los dejé hacer. La cuadrícula sirve para crear un hábito, entender que un hoja no es solo una hoja sino que es un espacio donde cada cuadro cuenta (incluso si este está vacío). Anclar y relacionar las líneas de aquí allá, usando el punto A al B para formar líneas curvas más grandes que poco a poco se vuelven una esfera y finalmente en una manzana (por ejemplo), son formas valiosas de aprender a dibujar. Además, la cuadrícula nos ayuda con la escala, evitando errores de proporción ya que es casi infalible... Y bueno otro poco es parte del sentido común del artista de poder unir un elemento con otro. Incluyeron el claroscuro en este trabajo y así les quedó. Cómo siempre orgullosa de ellos. Sin más que decir, muchísimas gracias por pasar por aquí.
