"La casa del café y la tertulia" [Esp-Eng]

Una de las cosas que todo emprendedor considera al iniciar un negocio es precisamente el tiempo que se pueda sostener y alcanzar el éxito deseado. Dependiendo de lo que quieras lograr, la meta es totalmente clara y apunta a una especie de larga carrera donde deseas mantenerte por mucho, incluso pensando en dedicar toda tu vida y hasta, por así decirlo, dejar un legado que otros puedan continuar. Son esa clase de emprendimientos en los que la misma historia los va formando de tal manera que llegan a convertirse en un patrimonio para el lugar y para las personas que lo rodean. Esta es la historia de un lugar en la Sierra de Falcón (Venezuela), un pueblo llamado Cabure y en donde existe un lugar llamado "La casa del café y la tertulia".

One of the things every entrepreneur considers when starting a business is precisely how long it can be sustained and how to achieve the desired success. Depending on what you want to achieve, the goal is crystal clear and points to a long-term endeavour that you intend to maintain for a long time, perhaps even dedicating your whole life to it and, so to speak, leaving a legacy that others can carry on. These are the kinds of ventures that history itself shapes in such a way that they become a heritage for the place and the people around it. This is the story of a place in the Sierra de Falcón (Venezuela), a village called Cabure, where there is a place known as ‘La casa del café y la tertulia’.

Todo empezó con una invitación por parte de un conocido quien reside en dicho pueblo hacia un amigo y yo para que pudiéramos ver el proceso de preparación de un café que se cultiva en zonas cercanas a dicho lugar. En apariencia solo parece una casa con estilo colonial que data de muchos años, pero al entrar lo primero que te da la bienvenida es el aroma del café. Es impresionante ver como una casa contiene una larga historia que pasa los cien años, y que por mucho tiempo ha sostenido el emprendimiento de una familia que con constancia y dedicación se han hecho un nombre y una fama que no deja de ser un punto de atracción para muchos residentes y turistas.

It all began with an invitation from an acquaintance who lives in that village, inviting a friend and me to see how coffee grown in the surrounding area is prepared. From the outside, it looks like just a colonial-style house dating back many years, but upon entering, the first thing to greet you is the aroma of coffee. It is impressive to see how a house holds a long history spanning over a hundred years, and how for a long time it has sustained the enterprise of a family who, through perseverance and dedication, have made a name and reputation for themselves that continues to be a major attraction for many locals and tourists.

El ambiente en esta casa transmite una sensación nostálgica y que con el aroma y el sabor del café invitan precisamente a la meditación y la tertulia. El señor Alfredo, quien ahora está a cargo de este lugar, nos explicó el sentido de agregar al título la palabra "tertulia", dejando claro que la intención es de poder desconectarnos de nuestro entorno y hábitos comunes para poder sumergirnos en los patios de lo que parece una especie de museo. Muchos adornos y fotos de personas que llegaron a ser pioneros en el pueblo y también en el trabajo que empezó desde un emprendimiento familiar y aún sigue tan vigente como si no pasaran los años. Pero no solo es el café el protagonista especial de este lugar, ya que también hay mucha información relacionada con la historia del pueblo de Cabure.

The atmosphere in this house has a nostalgic feel to it, and the aroma and flavour of the coffee are perfect for meditation and conversation. Mr Alfredo, who now runs the place, explained to us the reasoning behind adding the word ‘tertulia’ to the name, making it clear that the intention is to allow us to disconnect from our surroundings and everyday routines so that we can immerse ourselves in the courtyards of what feels like a kind of museum. There are many ornaments and photos of people who became pioneers in the village, as well as of the business that began as a family venture and remains as vibrant today as if the years had not passed. But it is not just the coffee that is the star attraction here; there is also a wealth of information relating to the history of the village of Cabure.

Desde muy temprano en la mañana ya puedes acceder a la casa del café y la tertulia, y la atención y hospitalidad por parte del señor Alfredo y sus ayudantes es bastante acogedor. De hecho, la ventaja de ir desde la mañana es que se puede ver todo el trabajo de selección, tostado y preparación del café, con métodos algo tradicionales pero bastante efectivos.También hay un área que es como una pequeña biblioteca donde puedes leer libros con temas relacionados al café, los quesos, dulces tradicionales, el vino y la cerveza entre otros. Dependiendo del tiempo y la cantidad de personas que se acerquen al lugar, los mismos encargados se ofrecen a hablar un poco del origen de este trabajo y todas las experiencias que se han dado a través de muchísimos años.

From very early in the morning, you can visit the coffee house and social area, and the service and hospitality provided by Mr Alfredo and his assistants are very welcoming. In fact, the advantage of going in the morning is that you can watch the whole process of selecting, roasting and preparing the coffee, using methods that are somewhat traditional but highly effective. There is also an area that is like a small library where you can read books on topics related to coffee, cheese, traditional sweets, wine and beer, amongst others. Depending on the time of day and the number of people visiting, the staff themselves offer to talk a little about the origins of this work and all the experiences they have had over many years.

Al hablar con el señor Alfredo, comprendí como la actitud y la diligencia pueden llevar con éxito algún negocio que desees emprender. Quizás no tengan las condiciones ideales y día a día tengan que enfrentarse a los inconvenientes comunes como por ejemplo los problemas con el suministro del agua o la inestabilidad del servicio eléctrico, pero esto no ha sido un obstáculo que no hayan podido superar. También destaco la hospitalidad que caracteriza incluso a todas las personas en este pueblo, y como esa disposición genuina de siente con la atención que en todo momento están dispuestos a dar. Toda esta experiencia me ha dejado una lección valiosa en la que más allá las circunstancias ideales están las cualidades y la actitud que no solo nos pueden llevar al éxito sino que nos mantienen por mucho tiempo y disfrutando de nuestro trabajo.

Talking to Mr Alfredo, I realised how the right attitude and hard work can lead to success in any business you wish to start. They may not have ideal conditions and face common day-to-day challenges, such as problems with the water supply or unreliable electricity, but these have not been obstacles they have been unable to overcome. I would also like to highlight the hospitality that characterises everyone in this village, and how that genuine warmth is reflected in the care they are always willing to provide. This whole experience has taught me a valuable lesson: that beyond ideal circumstances lie the qualities and attitude that not only lead us to success but also keep us there for a long time, enjoying our work.
