War Is Not For Me... Not At All.

If you’ve been following my posts for a while now, then you’d definitely know my stand on war. Ever since I was old enough to understand the concept of war, especially modern warfare and the basics that led to it, I’ve never been in support of it. No matter how it’s painted or how honorable it’s made to look, war will never be appealing.
This is not a jab at soldiers because being a soldier is an honorable duty, putting your life on the line for your country has to be the biggest sacrifice a person can make for their nation. But war? No! It’s something that I’ll never understand for one simple reason: it’s always fueled by stupid human emotions like greed. And in the past, issues like anger, jealousy, and even lust led to deadly wars.

But let’s leave the past for the history books, a lot of wars are happening today that will bear witness to what I’m saying. Most of the countries that are currently at war are doing so for one reason only: resources. It’s not like the lack of these resources is crippling their nations; they simply see other countries having them, and they want them, so they drop bombs on them. And if it’s not greed, it’s power play, to show who is boss.
Pick out any war, and I will categorically tell you the reason that the attacking country had to launch it. No matter the propaganda or how the media tries to sweeten it, it’s still the same thing. Young men are sent to fight battles and lay their lives on the line. Material things. That’s all. And because the defending countries can’t just sit back and allow themselves to be bombed to hell, they have to defend themselves. However, if they had never attacked in the first place, they would never have needed to send soldiers to defend them. So you see?

This is why youths of today are mostly resisting the war, because when you think about it, many of us are actually feeling the consequences of the war but not the benefits. Soldiers are lost on a daily basis, limbs are destroyed, many get crippled and are maimed for life, just because they’re on the front line. However, the people who actually caused the war are safe in underground bunkers, calling the shots while foot soldiers keep eating bullets like groundnuts.
At a time of war, the most important thing a young man can do is to focus on protecting his family. Because even my country has not given me enough reasons to want to lay down my life, after all, seeing the kind of life the soldiers are subjected to, one would be scared to even venture there, especially with the terrorism that’s going on all over the country. It’s a scary situation, but then, what can we do?
Every man should be able to protect his family, and that’s what I’ll do. My main focus will be getting my family to safety. And if I can carry my friends and neighbors along, I’ll do that as well. Save as many lives as I can. That’s how desperate war can get. The only instance I could consider joining the Army is if our country is under attack from external forces, then joining would make sense. However, if the war is caused by us going into another man’s land to attack them… nah, count me out.
Well, I just hope this is something I never get to experience, but with the way things are going now, with so many wars currently happening… It’s really scary. Let’s see how it goes.
