Mi #TBT de los primero de enero en Puerto Cabello [ENG/SPN]

Greetings to the friends of the Top Family Community. Here's my entry for the Throwback Thursday Contest.

My #TBT from January 1st in Puerto Cabello

There are moments that only a photograph can capture and preserve. Like, for example, that night on Lanceros Street in Puerto Cabello, January 1, 2009. It was a tradition to go to the beach on the morning of January 1st; my mom, despite being a Jehovah's Witness and not celebrating Christmas or New Year's, didn't want to miss that trip. She would arrive at my house before Christmas and spend all of December with me.

For my part, I did keep up my Christmas traditions, except for putting up the Christmas tree, nativity scenes, or anything that would give my mom an excuse to preach to me and speak ill of "Babylon the Great"—you know, all those things religious fanatics say; forgive me, I don't mean to offend. Well, those were my Christmases: peculiar festivities trying to please my mom, who brought my sisters from her second marriage with her. In this photo, there's only my youngest daughter, who's now a beautiful young woman; my younger brother from my first marriage is also there, and of course, me, back in my "blonde" days.

I know those days are gone, but they're memories that fill me with joy. I feel happy because, when I was able, I gave my mom many days off. For several years in a row, the trip to the beach on January 1st became a tradition, a way to start the year with the vast ocean as our backdrop. Mom is gone now, my sisters have their own homes, and my brother will soon be fifty with responsibilities and a family to take care of. For my part, I can tell you that I have been happy; with my memories and my photos, I continue to grow and believe that each year will always be better. Mi #TBT de los primero de enero en Puerto Cabello

Hay momentos que solo una foto puede detener para permitir que sean guardados. Como, por ejemplo, esa noche en la calle Lanceros de Puerto Cabello, el 1 de enero de 2009. Era tradición ir a la playa en la mañana del primero de enero; mi mamá, a pesar de su religión como Testigo y de no celebrar las Navidades ni el Año Nuevo, no se quería perder ese viaje. Llegaba a mi casa desde antes de Navidad y pasaba todo diciembre conmigo. Yo, por mi parte, sí mantenía mis tradiciones navideñas, excepto colocar el arbolito, nacimientos o cualquier cosa que le diera pie a mi mamá para predicarme y hablar mal de “Babilonia la Grande” —ya saben todas esas cosas que dicen los fanáticos religiosos; que me perdone, no lo digo para ofender—. Bueno, esas eran mis Navidades: unas festividades peculiares tratando de complacer a mi mamá, quien traía consigo a mis hermanas de su segundo matrimonio. En esta foto solo está la más pequeña, que ya es toda una mujer muy bella; también está mi hermano, el menor del primer matrimonio, y por supuesto yo, en mis días de ser “catira”. Sé que esos días no volverán, pero son recuerdos que me llenan de alegría. Me siento feliz porque, cuando pude, le di a mi mamá muchos días de paseos. Fueron varios años seguidos en los que el viaje a la playa del 1 de enero se hizo tradición para comenzar el año ante un mar inmenso. Mamá ya no está, mis hermanas ya tienen sus hogares y mi hermano pronto será un cincuentón con obligaciones y un hogar al cual responder. Por mi parte, les digo que sí he sido feliz; con mis recuerdos y mis fotos sigo creciendo y creyendo que cada año siempre será mejor.
