Incapable of Doing Anything… But Not Without My Husband
I remember that morning clearly.
I just sat there, not because I was lazy, but because I felt completely drained. My mind was awake, but my strength was nowhere to be found. I looked around the house and everything felt like it was waiting for me—but I couldn’t move.

Salome called me from the room, and Sarah’s little voice followed after. Normally, I would answer quickly, already up and doing what needs to be done. But that day, I just… couldn’t.
It felt like I was incapable of doing anything.
My husband noticed before I even said a word.
He didn’t rush me. He didn’t complain. He just came closer and sat beside me like he always does when he knows something is wrong.
“Anzaya,” he said softly, “what’s wrong?”
I exhaled heavily. “I don’t know… I just feel tired. Not the usual tiredness. This one is deep. I feel like I can’t even start anything today.”
He looked at me for a moment, calm as ever.
“You’ve been carrying too much,” he said quietly. “House, children, everything… you’re not a machine.”
I shook my head. “But Salome and Sarah depend on me. I can’t just stay like this.”
That’s when he held my hand tighter.
“They depend on you, yes… but they also need you alive, healthy, and okay. Let me take over today.”
I hesitated. A part of me felt guilty just sitting there while he moved around for me.
But another part of me was tired of pretending I was fine.
So I let go.
He stood up, walked into the room where Salome and Sarah were, and I heard him talking to them gently, making them laugh even without me.
And for the first time that day, I breathed properly.
Maybe I wasn’t incapable of doing anything.
Maybe I was just human… and lucky enough to have a husband who didn’t let me break in silence. Anzaya Awayo
