My reaction to a derogatory remarks

There's this outdoor birthday party i went with my roommate back then in university. So one of our coursemate was celebrating his birthday which he invited us over to celebrate with him. The DJ was doing justice the party, given us good music and I was vibing to the music with my roommate while we take our drinks.

There's this lady at the other at party with her friend at their own table, the lady lives in the same lodge with me. She was looking and pointing at me with an angry face, it was more of a gossip, all their attention was on me, she will say something and all of them will laugh, they will laugh so loud so that I know that, they are talking about me. So they really got my attention, out of rage and anger, i stood up to confront them, but my roommate pulled me back and sat me down.

She told me to ignore her for now inorder not to cause a scene rather focus on the more reason why we are here to celebrate with the celebrant, so I agreed with her and ignore the lady, so after I was more calm I left that place and move to another place far abit from where she was with her friends, I didn't let that to end joy from having fun, I enjoyed the party, drank and ate to my satisfaction and finally left

The next day, I approached her and asked her what was the meaning of that because she was under my age, I asked her if should was under the influence of alcohol and told her, the same warned her never to repeat that or gossip with my name again and if does she won't like the out come. So after the warning she looks at me differently and avoided me like a flu.

So for me not every gossip needs to be tackled immediately or needs much attention. Being silent in a chaotic situation it's the best thing to do for your peace of mind. We should always control our energy and response, it's better than fight and noise. When we want to confront it should be in peace and composure and we should also leave when peace is not for an option.
