Phillies continue inconsistent ways and fall to Cubs | Jesús Luzardo on the mound tonight
Ah man, as I sort of predicted the Phillies offense falls mildly asleep once again after a big day prior. Three of their four runs yesterday were scored in one inning. Continuing a pattern of scoring pretty much in singular innings and then falling asleep promptly afterwards.
Aaron Nola's numbers look mediocre but the vibes were off and the eye test wasn't very good. He got through five innings and allowed three runs. He also allowed eight hits and two walks, an average of two baserunners per inning... Not a great sign but he kept the Phillies in the game which is respectable. But the Phillies kind of expect Nola to be good-All-Star level, not just respectable.
The bullpen then proceeds to completely mess up the game and give up six runs in the final four innings. The Phils lose 10-4. A 10-4 loss is essentially a team beatdown.
The Phils are now back under .500 with an 8-9 record. When the game concludes tonight, their season will be 11% done. Bam, just like that. Can't get that portion of the season back. The Braves are 11-7, leading the NL East at the moment.
Jesús Luzardo's had a relatively rough start to his season on the mound. If there was ever a time to get his season started in earnest, tonight would be that time. He currently is 1-2 with a 6.23 ERA. He has a decent WHIP of 1.15.
The weather is great once again in Philadelphia, mid 80's to high 70's. Lets see what the Phils can do.
